Sylvia Nam

Sylvia Nam [or Sylvia Geehae Nam] is a California-based interdisciplinary researcher specializing in the study of legal systems in post-conflict and postcolonial contexts, examining how law and governance intersect in moments of transition, an Assistant Professor of anthropology with a PhD in City and Regional Planning at University of California (UC), Berkeley (2012), her doctoral dissertation titled Speculative Urbanism: The Remaking of Phnom Penh.

Dr. Sylvia Nam was a University of California President’s Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Anthropology at UC Riverside, and an Assistant Professor of anthropology at UC Irvine Expert with an expertise in urban growth, political economy, and real estate in emerging markets (2014−2023). Her Ph.D. is in City and Regional Planning with a designated emphasis in Global Metropolitan Studies from UC Berkeley.

Since 2024, Dr. Sylvia Nam worked as Senior Program Analyst and Lead Program Analyst at the State Bar of California’s Office of Access & Inclusion, conducting research and programs to advance access to justice.
