A. Kathirasen

A. Kathirasen is a veteran Malaysian journalist and editor who has been writing columns for print newspapers and online publications since the 1970s.

He has contributed to several mainstream publications, covering politics, society, culture, and governance, earned over the years a solid reputation for his sharp analysis, engaging style, and ability to make complex issues accessible to readers. Since the late, 2010s he has been a columnist with Free Malaysia Today, one of Malaysia’s leading news portals, and for Yahoo Malaysia, writing opinion and commentary piece5s on national and global issues. As an equanimous contributor to public debate, he likes to explore his country’s and Southeast Asia’s rich history. As his byline states — ​“After 50 years in journalism, A Kathirasen has come to this realisation: everything changes, yet nothing really changes.”

In 2025, A. Kathirasen authored Vaithi – A Life of Service, the bibliography of noted Malaysian organizer and interfaith dialogue promoter Datuk A. Vaithilingam.
