Bounsuy Tan

Tan Bounsuy [or Bun Suy] is a Cambodian researcher in ecology, biology and biodiversity, a former Professor of Pedology and a Deputy Director-General of APSARA National Authority (ANA) since 2004.

After obtaining his baccalaureate in 1957, Dr. Tan Bonsuy followed higher studies in France at Institut d’agronomie de Gembloux and later Université de Franche-Comté (Besançon), from which he received his Doctorate in 1987 — his doctoral thesis dealt with the ​“régénération naturelle du sapin dans le Jura” [Natural regeneration of fir trees in the Jura region].

Back in Cambodia in the 1990s, Tan Bounsuy was invited to join multidisciplinary studies on the primeval and secondary forests in the Kulen Mountain area. He also conducted research at the Department of Agriculture and Community Development, as well as at the International Centre of Research and Documentation of Angkor (ICRDA), both under the umbrella of ANA. He has received the title of Deputy Director-General of ANA in 2004.
