Cécile Mourer-Chauviré (b. 5 Nov 1939) is a French paleontologist specializing in birds of the Eocene and the Oligocene, a former Research Director at CNRS (1985−2005) and the discoverer with husband Roland Mourer of the Cambodian prehistoric cave site of Laang Spean ភ្នំទាក់ទ្រាំង ល្អាងស្ពាន in 1965.

After studying at University of Lyon (France) specializing in Quarternary mammals, she completed her PhD on
Pleistocene birds in 1962. During excavation campaigns around France at the time, she had met young ethnologist Roland Mourer and they married in 1964, the year he was sent to Cambodia for his military service as ​“coopérant”7
in Kompong Chhnang. The sojourn was originally supposed to last one year, for which Cécile had received permission from the CRNS for unpaid leave, but finally they decided to stay longer. She quit her post at the CNRS and in the end remained six years in Cambodia, during which her two sons, Alexis and Ivan, were born. During the first year in Cambodia (1964−1965), Cécile worked as a French teacher at the Lycée Preah Bat Suramarit in Kompong Chhnang. In 1965, she obtained a post as a Professor in Geology at the Université Royale of Phnom Penh where she taught for five years until 1970, when the civil war began in Cambodia. During their time in Cambodia, Roland Mourer and Cécile went archaeological prospecting in the limestone massifs of the Battambang province, in northwestern Cambodia. Already in 1965, they had discovered a prehistoric settlement in the Laang Spean cave on top of a phnom [mountain, hill] between Battambang and Païlin. They started excavating there and because the location was out of range of any infrastructure, they spent all week there, just the two of them. 

In 1970, at the outbreak of civil war in Cambodia, Cécile had to return with her two small children to France. The Mourers were invited to go back to Laang Spean in 2012, joining the Cambodian-French archaeological team on site, and Roland Mourer kept publishing about prehistoric Cambodia. 

Colleagues have honoured Mourer-Chauviré by naming fossil bird species and genera after her. As of 2013, the following were named after her: Aythya chauvirae, Cypseloides mourerchauvireae, Chauvireria balcanica, Pica mourerae , Oligosylphe mourerchauvireae, Tyto mourerchauvireae, Afrocygnus chauvireae, Asphaltoglaux cecileae.
