អាចារ្យ Achar: knowledgeable person. In modern Cambodia, the Achar assists the monks performing rituals for the community.
Khing Hoc Dy ឃីង ហុកឌី (b. 13 June 1945, Chheu Teal Village, Kampong Chen Tbong Commune, Stong District, Kampong Thom Province) is a Cambodian professor of literature and humanities who authored several reference studies on Cambodian literature history, and a founding member of the Royal Academy of Cambodia.
A young professor of Khmer literature at Santepheap High School, Kampong Speu Province, then at Boeung Kak and Indratevi High School, Phnom Penh from 1968 to 1971, he had to take refuge in France, obtaining his PhD at Sorbonne Paris III University in 1974, and the Diploma in Research Leadership at the National Institute of Oriental Languagesand Civilizations (INALCO), 1995. He was also technical associate to Musée de l’Homme de Paris from May 1975 to November 1985, and a researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), Paris, from 1985 to his retirement in 2010.
Prof. Khing Hoc Dy is scientific advisor to the Buddhist Institute, Phnom Penh, member of the Société Asiatique de Paris and of the Société d’ethnographie musicale (Society for Ethnographic Music) of Paris.
