Jane Kramer

Jane Kramer (b. 7 Aug. 1938, Providence, RI, USA) is an American journalist and staff writer at The New Yorker since 1964. where she wrote the column ​“Letter from Europe” since 1981.

A graduate of Vassar College (1959) and Columbia University, (1961), she was the founder of the magazine Morningsider, New York, and a staff writer for the Village Voice. In 1967, she married Vincent Crapanzano, an anthropologist, professor, and writer, with whom she had three children. A constant traveler, she was a fouding member of Journalists Human Rights Committee (also known as Committee to Protect Journalists) in 1981, and an associate of the Environmental Defense Fund.

Jane Kramer has written extensively on Germany, Europe and USA interactions and the European-inspired culinary culture of America.
