Hikosaka Shu

Shu Hikosaka (b. 1952, Toyohashi, Aichi, Japan) is a Japanese Buddhist scholar and a co-founder of the Institute of Asian Studies (IAS), Madras, India, in 1983, along with Dr. John Samuel (b. 1948, Neyoor, India) and other scholars. As
Born in a Zen Buddhist temple where his father was the temple priest, he became himself an ordained priest after undertaking Buddhist Philosophy studies first at Otani University, Kyoto, and from 1976 to 1998 in India, at Vishva Bharati University and later at the University of Madras.
As an IAS fouding member, he undertook the project of a Japanese version of the Tamil epic Manimekalai, and was the Editor of the Journal of Asian Studies (JAS) for several years.
