Thierry Zéphir

Portrait of Thierry   Zéphir

Head of research at the National Museum of Asian Arts (Musée Guimet) in Paris, Thierry Zéphir is also professor at École du Louvre, where he teaches courses on India and the countries of the ​“Indianized” world. 

A former student of Albert Le Bonheur (1938 – 1996) at École du Louvre, he majored in art history and archaeology. In 1991 – 1993, he taught students at the Phnom Penh Faculty of Archaeology, where he worked as a consultant. At Guimet, he conducted research for the Department of Southeast Asia (2006−2021) and Nepal-Tibet (since 2021).

He has authored various books and scholarly articles, including Khmer: Lost Empire of Cambodia, and L’Abcdaire d’Angkor et de l’art khmer (with Claude Jacques and Berenice Geoffroy-Schneider). In 1997, he co-curated the international exhibition Sculpture of Angkor and Ancient Cambodia – Millennium of Glory, and in 2025 the major exhibition Bronzes royaux d’Angkor [Royal Bronzes of Angkor].
