Epistemology

Epistemology is the branch of philosophy that studies the nature, origin, and limits of human knowledgethe knowledge, especially with regard to its methods, validity, and scope, and the distinction between justified belief and opinion.

An important field of philosophy since Ancient Greek, 'formal epistemology' in modern times is an attempt to understand how one's degree of confidence - including gender-related - is rationally constrained by evidence.
