Dr. Dineshchandra (D.C.) Sircar [also D.C. Sarkar] (1907, Krishnanagar, Bengal –1985, Calcutta [Kolkata], India), was an epigraphist, historian, numismatist and folklorist, Chief Epigraphist of the Archaeological Survey of India (1949 – 1962), Carmichael Professor of Ancient Indian History and Culture at the University of Calcutta (1962 – 1972) and General President of the Indian History Congress, of which publication, The Proceedings of the Indian History Congress, started in 1935

Editor-in-chief of the Journal of Ancient Indian History from 1967 to his death, Dr. D.C. Sirkar has authored numerous books and essays, both in Bengali [BGL] and English [ENG]. His 2‑volume work, Select Inscriptions Bearing on Indian History and Civilisation (1965), has been a reference for M.A. students in history for many years in Bengal and Orissa universities.
