Grégory Mikaelian

A specialist in modern history, Grégory Mikaelian (1976-) is a CNRS researcher since 2008. He made his PhD thesis at Paris IV Sorbonne into a seminal book, La Royauté d’Oudong, Réforme des institutions et crise du pouvoir dans le royaume khmer du XVIIeme siècle, Paris, 2009) and published many studies on Khmer history and civilization.

He also profiled the prolific author Adhémard Leclère in Un partageux au Cambodge : biographie d’Adhémard Leclère, Paris, 2011), and indexed the important A. Leclère´s collection at Alençon Museum (Musée municipal d’Alençon, France).

Mikaelian has extensively researched the Cambodian elites from the city of Battambang and their historic links with the royal family of Cambodia. This was part of his ongoing interest in the Middle Period ‘, the post-Angkorian centuries during which the country had to find its way between two often encroaching powers, Siam and Dai Viet.

Researching the origins of the political and judicial systems in Cambodia, Grégory Mikaelian co-published with Saveros Pou the sum titled Nouvelles inscriptions du Cambodge (Paris, Vol IV2012).
